Sometimes I may get behind on these posts, there are worse things in life ;)

The Originals

The Originals is one of those shows that I just love. It isn't one of my favourites but I do like it better than its predecessor, the Vampire Diaries. I find Klaus a fascinating and humorous character. The only thing I wish is that we see more of Rebekah.

This episode had a bit of a twist, both their parents are back in some form. Their mother's spirit is in some body and she's running the show with the witches. Their father is some kind of spirit who has somehow crossed over and being controlled by Davina - odd but I am excited to see where this goes! It is still early in the season - CW starts their seasons later on - so there hasn't been too much going on yet but this new revelation with the parents is definitely a good start.

Manhattan Love Story

This show is silly but hilarious. Some find the inner dialogue of the characters "cringe worthy" but that is what makes it so funny! I at first wasn't sure if I liked this show, for some reason I can never get into half hour shows but by this episode, I'm totally game to keep watching.

Basically the two who are dating are not exclusively dating yet and in this episode, the guy's brother who also set them up and his wife are throwing a dinner party in which they are both required to bring dates but instead of bringing each other they bring other people. Needless to say it ends up being extremely awkward. I love the inner dialogue aspect of the show. It is what makes the show.

Chicago Fire

Chicago Fire, ohhh Chicago Fire. What is not to like about this show?! Sure Shay is dead, but you know, I really don't miss her. If one of the guys died, like Severide or Casey, we would have a problem. But anyway, in this episode, Severide in his drunken mess over his friend's death, gets on a subway because he's drunk. Shooting happens and he helps save a victim. What surprised me was how modest he was about it.

Another thing to note was how nail biting Dawson's new role is. Did anybody else feel nervous for her? Is this going to affect her relationship? Is she going to get in trouble? How do you manage having a relationship like that? Your fiancé is your fiancé at home but your boss at work? And not jut your boss, but your boss in such a high stakes role.

It made me think, if you are a firefighter or a police officer or any high stakes job like that, your first day of the job is way different than any other first day. You can't make a mistake. Everything needs to go perfectly because someone's life and your own for that matter.. is on the line. Stressful!

Sunday Night TV / Oct 12

Heartland
Heartland is a Canadian TV show on CBC. It is on its 8th season making it the longest running hour long series in the history of Canadian television. It is one of those shows that is kind of like Parenthood. It's not too hollywood but still has a good amount of drama. Just not over the top and dramatic.

As for last nights episode?
  • Amy had the perfect time to come clean with Ty and according to the preview for the next episode, it all comes out then and he does not react well at all. She should have told the truth from the beginning.
  • Georgie needs to talk to Amy - she can't just walk around hating her.

That is about it to this episode. I think there will be more to talk about next week ;)

Once Upon A Time
Ahh Frozen has come to Once Upon A Time!!! Love it. What is kind of funny is they were portrayed kind of to be an enemy with the previews but Elsa is not at all! I just have so many questions!!

  • Where is Anna!!??
  • Who the heck is this Snow Queen?
  • How is she connected to everyyone?!

Let's start revealing some information here!! And on that note - there are two couples that need to just give in and get together. Regina and Robin Hood - although he did reveal he is in love with her this episode .. that is a start ;) And.. Emma and Hook! He has been chasing after her since last season she needs to get just give innn. Such a cute match.

According to next episode, we might actually get some answers!

Revenge

Every time I think this show has no more story left to tell, they come back with a better season.
These are my thoughts:

  • Charlotte is crazy and Victoria is feeding off of it. Get her help woman she is a drug addict.
  • So Emily's Dad has resurfaced (after everyone thinking he is dead) and Victoria is totally manipulating him. At the same time, is he an idiot or what? He thinks she was all innocent. Whatever.  He clearly has been in solitude way too long. So I wondered, how could she successfully manipulate him into getting rid of Emily. It is his daughter and he should know what he looks like. I thought to myself, if he doesn't recognize her, I'm going to be very annoyed because that is unrealistic and let's be serious, the show is already so far fetched as it is but I love it because it is brilliant. Who thinks of this stuff! I only wish I was this resourceful ;)
  • My thoughts and hopes were answered in this episode when the Dad goes to attack Emily and clearly recognizes her as he hesitates.
  • The next episode will lead more answers to how this will play out because I guess he gets picked up by the cops and she identifies him. I wonder....
  • Finally, this new cop is a looker annnd he was hitting on Emily in this episode. I hope they get together!! ooooo

The Good Wife

I wasn't sure this show was going to be any good after Will Gardner's death but this season has had a great start. This episode, Alicia decides to run for political office thus having to deal with all the consequences. Every episode never seems to lack the humour.

Alicia's reaction to hearing the news of Zack's abortion - hilarious.
The whole ordeal over Alicia's mother slapping a child in the store - hilarious.
And especially Eli's reaction to being able to fire the intern - hilarious!

I just love it all! Seriously, you need to check out this show if you haven't already. Drama with humour. Amazing.

The Railway Man

Sunday, 12 October 2014

I'm always up for a good war movie based on true events. The thing is, I had no idea that was what this movie was about. I just chose it to watch not really sure what to expect. Sometimes I venture into these movies that aren't really hyped about and I am either pleasantly surprised or I feel like I just wasted my time. Most of the time, the bigger blockbusters leave me with the latter.

IMDB Rates it 7/10 and I say I would give it at 10. I'm kind of like that though. I either love it, like it or I don't. It stars big names Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman. It was also featured in the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.

The movie is about a british army officer who's brigade was taken captive by the Japanese to build a railroad from Thailand to Burma. It is a little slow to start, starting with the main character, Eric, meeting Patti on the train and then they end up getting married. It is a little slow to start but then we get into the meat of it. Patti realizes that Eric is suffering but he won't talk to her so she seeks answers from a friend of his. Then the movie starts into flashbacks revealing what happened. I don't want to reveal the rest but it is a must watch. It truly has a beautiful ending and I teared up a bit (Which, I never do by the way. I'm like a stone).

Another thing that I really love about this movie is that it tells a story that we never knew. There are so many things that happened during these times to all the countries involved and of course we mainly learned how it affected our own country. But then again, I am also fascinated with history and how things were.

I highly recommend giving this movie a watch. If you'd like, watch the trailer for it below.

Artist Feature: Alex & Sierra

Sunday, 12 October 2014

Heard of them? Neither had I. Their album cover on iTunes intrigued me so I gave it a whirl. Turns out they are the winners of the X-Factor. I have to say she has an amazing and unique voice. I just love it.

I'll admit most of their album was whatever but there was one song that I just fell in love with. The vocals, the lyrics, all of it is just really amazing and relatable.

Enjoy!

Thursday Night TV / Oct 9

Saturday, 11 October 2014

Thursday nights are one of my biggest TV nights and I have night classes on Thursday so I usually don't get around to watching every show that night so please be patient with me. As said before, this post will have spoilers in it.

Parenthood
Parenthood is one of those feel good shows. I wouldn't say anything shocking really happens in the show. It is just a nice show to watch with realistic story lines. I have to say I am sad this is the last season. Now I will get into my thoughts.

  • Julia needs to never mind this shmuck at work and go back to her husband. Work it out!
  • I'm glad Drew stood his ground and didn't let his sister stay in Wyoming with this guy. His character is usually awkward and annoying and today he actually was like an adult.
  • I'm not sure if Crosby's bike accident is going to lead in to the next episode or not - nothing really was said after it. We will see I guess!

Reign
You know, it is funny because when Reign first premiered last year I didn't even know about it and I discovered it when I read a list of new shows I "should" be watching. I decided to give it ago and binge watched - I mean, caught up... on the first 6 episodes in one night. I was immediately hooked. As for this season, I wasn't really as hooked on it as I thought I would be... until we got half way through this weeks episode.

  • This show always has its twists and I don't know why I believed this whole performance between Mary and Francis but I did. Maybe it is because Francis can sometimes be a real douche. Anyway - those two still seem to remain a dynamic duo when it comes to ruling France! Just love it.
  • I would really like to see more of Bash. He was one of the leading characters last season and now it seems he's fallen back and appears very briefly through ought the episode. Boo!
  • The end. That creeped me out. Honestly, I did not see that coming. I at first was like oh is this servant going to reveal she's actually Francis mother? But not... it is his father's spirit! I was so creeped out... oh my goodness. I can't wait to see the next episode.

Here is the preview for next week!

Grey's Anatomy

  • Ok can we all get a clap that Amelia Shepherd is back. I loved her Private Practice. She made me like the name Amelia. Woo! So excited.
  • Speaking of Amelia. I get that Derek is upset but he needs to give her a break. I'm so glad she told him where to go this episode.
  • And now on to Meredith. Since about mid last season, she has been a huge biotch. I'm not understand why she is so miserable all the time. Was she like that every season? I can't even remember but I really don't like her anymore.
  • I feel like Avery and April need more attention. She is pregnant (and pregnant in real life so her baby bump is 100% real in the show) and last season they had such a story line and now they aren't even seen in scenes together. I love them and hoping to see more!
  • This show also wins for best
  • can the story line focus more on avery and his wife and their baby? they were so focussed on last season and now they aren't even in a scene together

Let's take a look at this trailer. I feel like if these split, the entire 11 seasons of this show will be a huge waste. At the same time, I feel like the show is touching on a common reason for couples splitting up but will probably get more into that next week after the episode.

Vampire Diaries

All I'm really going to say about this one is that I am glad that Damon didn't actually leave the show for good, mad that Elena can't deal with her emotions like a grown up and now she has erased her feelings for Damon like an idiot because he is STILL ALIVE! Ahhh the agony watching that... You just want to throw something at the TV.

How To Get Away With Murder

This show is band new this year and I have to say, I thought it was going to be completely different. I'm still not sure what to think of it. It is kind of confusing because it jumps back and forth and every episode reveals something new about this "murder" so the show is kind of weird in a way. I still need time to gather my opinion on this one.

Alright, so as you see, Thursday is a big night. So is Sunday so be prepared for another long winded post.

Wednesday Night TV / Oct 8

Wednesday, 8 October 2014

I was trying to find the best way to format my TV posts. I feel like since I have nights where there are a lot of shows, I am going to do it by night and do my recaps and thoughts one post or there will be too much to keep up with in terms of posts. Please beware there will be spoilers so if you haven't watched the episode yet, wait until after. I don't want to be that person.

Survivor: Blood vs. Water

Ok so the athlete-ex-baseball-player John.. who went through the past few episodes not wanting people to know about his former sports career because he had some controversy in the past for being racist. The guy is honestly a bit of a dope. He gave word this dude on the other tribe that he'd take care of his wife and what happens next? She is the one to get voted off. That was last episode though but it did lead to consequences this episode. Jeremy (who was naturally pissed his wife was gone) started going off in his own tribe spilling the beans on this dude. John's girlfriend was in this tribe so naturally things got kind of awkward...

At the immunity challenge some other chick starts up with John mouthing off and being kind of immature. I don't even understand where it came from? Lets all be adults here.. John made matters worse though. He responded to her by saying, "If you were a man, I'd knock your teeth out." Or something to that effect. Not good dude. Even his girlfriend was shaking her head.

Soo... Coyopa goes to tribal counsel yet again and I'll admit, I thought that another girl was going to be voted off. It seems every single season, there is that tribe that loses every single challenge and their numbers dwindle - Coyopa is that tribe. Also, every single season there seems to be that tribe that takes out the girls. Shouldn't the girls be catching on to this by now? Do you watch the show?! Get some girl power in there and stop letting the boys dominate and get rid of you! So I was kind of annoyed but luckily, this John character changed that because his tribe didn't want his volatile nature with them. So he is gone now. He blames it on him being the athlete. No dude, it's because you lost your temper and didn't just walk away.

Nashville

Oh Nashville. This has to be one of my favourite shows and this third season has started off great. I wondered what they were going to do with Hayden Panettiere being pregnant but of course they wrote it in to create such a great story line! Every episode has ended on a mini cliffhanger and leaves me craving for next week - the key to a great show! So here a few points I wanted to bring up.

  • Does anybody else think Scarlett needs to get back to singing!? My iPod is full of her and Gunner's amazing duets. Also, speaking of those two, they need to just give in and get back together. I can tell it is going to happen because there is obvious tension going on there and Gunner needs to forget about that other chick. I don't even remember her name, that is how irrelevant she is to me in this show.
  • I neeed Juliette to spill about her pregnancy - to Avery! The preview gave me the feeling it won't be next episode. I am just so impatient over this. I want them back together like yesterday.
  • Speaking of Avery... this may sound mean but his little emotional breakdown is a little much and a little amusing. I don't think I've ever seen anybody react that crazy to being cheated on like. Relax dude.
  • Rayna and Deacon are another pair that just need to give in. Well, it is more of Rayna. Stop being stubborn woman! If you were unsure about this engagement to this other dude and needed to "think about it" and then go talk to Deacon ... that is a sign!

Mysteries of Laura

I'm still unsure about this show. I love Debra Messing and the show is quirky and funny but it is not laugh out loud funny.

The big issue I have is there is a lacking of cliff hanger. For me personally, I find shows that don't have a storyline that progresses through each episode boring. I need that cliffhanger to keep me well hanging on to the show... This one has a different story each episode. I want to give it more of a chance but this show could be bumped from the lineup in the near future.

Let me know what you thought of tonights episodes! I love to have discussions :)

Hello there.

Tuesday, 7 October 2014

Hello there, some of you may know who I am, some of you may not. I have had a blog before but struggled to come up with material for that blog. The reason being, what I was writing about was not a true interest of mine. Recently I came up with the idea to start this blog.

So what is it about? Cupcakes you might think... but not really.

I love entertainment of all sorts. I love reading, I love television shows, I love movies and the occasional musical.

I love to immerse myself into a different reality than my own. It is a great way to escape.

So I decided to start a blog all about fiction! The cupcakes was just kind of thrown in there because it sounded cool. Maybe I will bake the occasional cupcake....

Anyway, so basically this blog will be me reviewing, showcasing, comparing, listing, etc... different books, movies, television shows and such. I will also add in music as well even though it doesn't really fit into the title.

So anyway, my name is Lauren and this is me! Very pleased to make your acquaintance.

Oh and just a little disclaimer - I'm not out to sit through every TV show and watch every movie and read every book that hits the stand - ain't nobody got time for that! This will be extremely bias as to stuff that I am interested in so yes, I will be reviewing Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

Enjoy!
